Feeling unsure about your career can come from things like redundancies or restructuring. According to the Global Talent Barometer, in 2025, only 65% of people globally felt secure in their jobs. In the UK, the number of people laid off in the first part of 2025 was double what it was three years before, with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development predicting a 5% cut in staff for the year overall.
And you might be among the 79% of workers who, according to Gallup's State of the Global Workplace report, feel disengaged and unappreciated in your job.

You may also face career uncertainty for more personal reasons. Maybe you are considering joining the 40% of workers who, Zippia report, leave their jobs because of burnout and low wellbeing? Add in other sources of stress, like caring responsibilities, and you may have no choice but to make the change (Carers UK, 2024).
Whether you are facing sudden job changes or ongoing doubts about your career, it is worth spending some time to understand where you are now. My online course, the FIRE programme, begins with the module "Free Your Mind", designed to help you understand why you are considering a change, make sense of your feelings and lay the foundations for the next step towards a more rewarding and purposeful career chapter.
